Get Out
Get Out is a horror-thriller directed by Jordan Peele. This was the first film that was created and directed by Peele. The movie had a focus on an African American male named Chris who was a photographer who was a smoker, this is a important detail for later. during the film Chris goes to his girlfriends parents house who he is meeting for the first time. Rose (his girlfriend) tells Chris that her family is obsessed with the African American history trying to make him feel better about the situation of him arriving at their home. When he arrives the situation of the home got more strange to him as time went on and he slowly starts to think that they are the opposite of what Rose described. He slowly finds out what he is suspicious of is true.
Peele uses different over the shoulder shots and slow zooming to recognize the intensity and stress of the current scene. When the camera begins to zoom in during scenes it gives off a claustrophobic feel for Chris in the scene when he it stuck to the chair when he is confronted by the mom. When she tells him to "sink" the camera zooms far out as if he is in a different plane and alone inside of himself as if he is framed in darkness from the memory of his mom.
Peele also uses the color blue to recognize sadness and stress within the scenes he shoots. Examples of this are when he falls through the chair, the blue on the tea cup, and the flashback before falling. the use of color show when Chris is in distress and highlight the emotion more than it had seemed before giving a lasting effect.
