How to Watch a Movie
Something that caught my eye in this chapter was the talk about cinematic language in film. Now this was more interesting because it is not something that the average film enjoyer might see or notice when watching a film. More specifically can be noticed about the movement on screen including actors/actresses as well as the cameras. This movement in the many different ways that it can be applied adds to the film and makes the story more dramatic.
One of the biggest parts in cinematic language is the way that editing is used in the film to cut up the different shots that the camera captured. The editing changes moves shots around that make patterns, sequences, acts, and many more aspects into the story that the creators and writers are trying to tell. Cinematic language isn't just one of these aspects instead it is the combination of all that gives us cinematic language. These many aspects included are things like editing, transitions, camera shots/angles, etc.
One movie that I believe ha a great combination of these elements is the new "Batman" movie. The reason for this is because the overall editing, color, movement, etc. all give this movie a combined grim feeling and theme. Anytime something dark had happened in the movie the lighting was very dim with intense music with matching angles, this allowed the audience to truly understand what was happening were dark times. This is just one example where a good combination of all aspects can be important for delivering a theme to a movie.
