The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
"The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" was about a character named Francis and a friend named Alan meeting a man named Caligari. Where Caligari reveals Cesare and they can see the future predicting that the friend Alan would die. When this fortune telling came true it was believed that Cesare killed Alan since he predicted the death. The story picks up and continues into if he killed Alan.
The film tended to make use of close up shots which conveyed more emotion to the character since the film is silent it had to use this method more than we would today. These types of shots give a closer look at the character in question to see the emotion with better emphasis. The close-ups set the mood of a scene in an efficient and easy way for the audience to understand. The use of these close-ups, high angle shots, and the visual design gives an off-putting setting that can immerse the audience in an unsettling way.
The biggest part that I noticed was the amount of emotion that the camera angles and close up shots captured. Although the music is another fact of changing mood the emotion on characters faces alone changed the mood of the scene since everything seemed like it was emphasized. The overexaggerated facial expressions seem less needed in todays media, mainly because of the sounds that we can have now, but I can tell that they were able to use other methods to comp
